OSHA statistics indicate that there are roughly 85 forklift fatalities and 34,900 serious injuries each year. Many employers who utilize Powered Industrial Trucks (forklifts, scissor lifts, high lifts, etc.) do not understand what they are required to do in order to develop and implement a comprehensive program incorporating training, inspection, maintenance and record keeping that will comply with the applicable standards promulgated and enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). While OSHA may open an inspection after a forklift accident, there are is local emphasis program covering Nebraska that directs inspectors to evaluate compliance with all applicable standards addressing vehicle and/or motorized equipment during all general industry inspections; in other words, if OSHA shows up for any reason to inspect your operations, you should assume they will expand their inspection into your PIT program if you use such vehicles. This webinar will cover the most frequently cited elements of OSHA’s PIT standard and common mistakes made by employers with respect to their PIT programs. This program will cover how employers should take a critical look at their current program and then identify what they need to do to reduce the risk of OSHA issuing citations for deficient aspects of their program. The program will also include a discussion of what OSHA typically looks for when conducting an inspection and offer tips and pointers regarding how to respond during such an inspection, as well as what to do in the event a citation is issued to your company.
