With 35,000 related jobs, Nebraska's interest in Canada and Mexico trade significant

As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and as a Nebraskan, I know that trade agreements with Canada and Mexico have a strong impact on our state, and that farmers and businesses will greatly benefit from updated provisions in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). USMCA reforms the rules for trade in North America, modernizing the 25-year-old North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA), to better support the interests of hard-working Americans and provide for robust economic growth in North America through freer and fair trade.
Nearly 35,000 jobs in Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District are supported by U.S. trade with Canada and Mexico and about one-third of all U.S. farm and food exports are sold to our North American neighbors. USMCA gives our farmers and businesses the opportunity to sell more of our state's leading exports such as processed food, agricultural products, and machinery, while maintaining tariff-free access for U.S. products and eliminating barriers, which will increase revenue and create thousands of jobs.
The USMCA includes a number of important updates to support 21st century innovations in agriculture. American farmers will benefit from the elimination of discriminatory grading of U.S. wheat in Canada; expanded U.S. access to Canada's dairy market; rules to address biotechnology as well as Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures; and other notable achievements like the ending of unfair treatment of U.S. wine in British Columbia.
Now it is up to House Democrats to bring this to the floor for a vote. Passing USMCA along with reaching other trade agreements will also give us more leverage in dealing with China's theft of our intellectual property and unfair trade practices. This is a priority of mine, and I promise to always advocate for our farmers and businesses and fight for its passage.
