NGF 33rd SUMMER MEETING RAP-UP THANK OUR SPONSORS – LIST INCLUDED
The Nebraska Grain and Feed Association’s (NGF) 33rd Summer Meeting and golf Classic on August 8, 2008 at the Quarry Oaks golf club set a record attendance for the one day meeting and golf tournament, according to Darin Hanson, Summer Meeting Co-Chair. "Our members really appreciate the one-day format, location and the Friday schedule,” said Hanson. “We have been fortunate to count on the support of our members, and some of the leading companies and suppliers of and for the grain industry in the country, and we can’t thank them enough.” The day kicked-off with the welcome from current NGF President Jan Mosby, followed by the remarks of GOP US Senate candidate Mike Johanns and Democratic Party US Senate candidate Scott Kleeb. Johanns, no stranger to Nebraska from his years as Governor and later Secretary of Agriculture, expounded on the experience he would bring to the senate seat being vacated by Chuck Hagel, touting in particular his knowledge of opening foreign markets to US agricultural exports and his direction in forming the recently passed Farm Bill. Kleeb, who ran for the 3rd congressional seat two years ago, nearly defeating a republican in one of the most conservative districts in the country, discussed the need to add more transparency to the commodity markets including requiring speculators to play by the rules, CRP reform, keeping oversea markets open against bogus trade issues, and the need to cross party lines for the sake of consensus. Diane Klemme, vice president of Grain Service Corp., discussed several strategies elevators and traders should consider in Managing Volatile Markets. Her presentation was so popular we are posting her Power Point presentation to this newsletter. Randy Gordon, Vice President of Communications and Government Relations for the National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) updated efforts to convince Congress of major concerns over agricultural futures market performance and the need to enhance transparency in the public reporting of trading activity. Lunch was followed by the All NGF Four- Person Classic at 12:30 PM. The steak dinner along with the prizes and awards rapped-up at 5:30 PM. The board and staff of NGF would like to thank all the attendees, speaker and sponsors for making this such a successful program!
