PSC APPROVES INCREASE FOR STATE GRAIN HANDLING CHARGES NGF, NCC SUPPORTED UPWARD ADJUSTMENT
The Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) has announced that the maximum handling charges warehouses can charge has been increased from $.25 to $.33 per bushel. The Nebraska Grain and Feed Association (NGF) and the Nebraska Cooperative Council (NCC) appeared together and strongly supported an increase to the maximum grain handling charges from the current ceiling of .$.25 per bushel to $.40 cents per bushel. Last year the PSC decided to increase the schedule A grain storage rates state licensed elevators can charge depositors, but left the $.25 cent handling charge unchanged. Last year NGF and the NCC supported the storage and handling increase. Last year's PSC decision increased maximum corn and other grain storage rates to 4 cents per month, and soybeans to 6 cents per month. "We're pleased that the PSC saw fit to make an upward adjustment to the maximum amount state licensed grain elevators can charge their customers for handling fees,” said NGF Executive VP Pat Ptacek. “20 years is a long time to go without increasing the maximum handling charge, and even though the PSC did not set the amount at the level we recommended, I am sure the adjustment will be used by our members sparingly while maintaining reasonable and competitive rates.” You can contact NGF for a copy of the PSC order, as well as the schedule A and E rates for your information and for public posting at your facility.
