ANDY KUHN RECEIVES 2011 NEBRASKA GRAIN AND FEED ASSOCIATION DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD

Award Ceremony At 36th Annual NGF Summer Meeting Dinner, August 19, Quarry Oaks Golf Club

The Nebraska Grain and Feed Association (NGF) Board of Directors has announced that  long time Board Director and two-time Association President Andy Kuhn has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the Association's Distinguished Service Award.  The Distinguished Service Award presentation will be made at the NGF 36th annual Summer Convention dinner at 5:30 PM on August 19, 2011 at Quarry Oaks golf course.

Kuhn began his career in the grain business at Far Mar Co and later, Scoular Grain in Omaha and Salina.  He moved to Lincoln with Scoular in 1983.  From there, Andy has worked for several grain companies including AGP, Farmland, ADM Farmland, ADM Grain and Countryside Cooperative in Firth, NE.  Andy began at Cargill in Lincoln in 2008 and currently works as a merchandiser for Cargill in Lincoln.

Kuhn has served on the Board of Directors since 1985.  He has served as NGF president in 1990 - 1991, and 2007 - 2008.  He has been a member of the NGF Legislative committee over the span of his service.  In his 26 years of service to the industry and NGF, Andy has seen a lot of change occur in the evolution of the grain business, and his institutional knowledge of Association activities and its importance throughout the years has served as a priceless asset to his peers and staff alike.

"I had no idea of the changes our industry would see over the next 25 years,” said Kuhn.  “Our industry has consolidated time and time again and the consolidation isn't over.  We continue to see larger and larger businesses dot the landscape and now we face new opportunity and challenges with the advent of the ethanol boom.  We never thought that loading 25 car trains in the country would be viable, but now we load 110 car shuttles in 10 hours no less.  We feared that ethanol would drive us out of business but now we are trading partners and working together on several issues.”

Kuhn has a passion for youth soccer and dedicates countless hours coaching kids around the Lincoln area.  Andy is also an active volunteer at First Lutheran Church.  He continues to make almost every Board meeting including volunteering for Association activities.  “I am honored that my colleagues have allowed me to serve on the Board of Directors, as their President and now humbled to receive this recognition.”   Andy lives with his wife, Karen in Lincoln.  They have two children, son Thomas Kuhn of San Francisco, and daughter Katherine Kuhn of Lincoln.
