NGF URGES MORE CONSIDERATION FOR EARLY RELEASE OF CRP The Nebraska Grain And Feed Association (NGF) was disappointed to hear that the USDA has denied producers early penalty free release of certain Conservation Reserve Acres (CRP), especially after urging for over three years the need to bring more acres into production to feed the ethanol and bio fuels industry. The National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) have been spearheading efforts to bring into reality the consequences a short crop could have, especially as it would relate to the feed sector. With stocks already low, any major weather related issue could have a profound effect on crop production and rising feed costs. The USDA decision will not effect the over 1.1 million acres due to expire after the next contract period. However, it does impact another 8 million acres that could have been released penalty free, and the denial could have the adverse impact of producers actually breaking-out marginal pasture or grazing lands to cash in on high grain prices.
