FEED TAX REDUCED BY 4 CENTS Reduction to Save Feed industry $320,000 The Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA), through adopted regulations reduced the current 10 cent per ton feed tax paid by elevators, feed mills and ethanol plants, by 4 cents, lowering the tax to 6 cents per ton. The Nebraska Grain and Feed Association (NGF) strongly supported the regulations originally proposed to reduce the tax by 3 cents. However, the NDA informed representatives of the grain and feed industry that the tax could be reduced an additional cent without curtailing feed inspection services. The 4 cent reduction will save Nebraska grain elevators, feed mills and ethanol plants producing feed and distillers grains over $320,000 per year. The regulation came in the wake of industry opposition to a recent legislative efforts to permanently shift 2 cents from the current feed tax paid by the grain and feed industry to the state feed inspection program, to the noxious weed control program. The Nebraska Grain and Feed Association (NGF) and the Nebraska Cooperative Council (NCC) vigorously opposed earmarking any fee or tax paid by the feed industry and designated specifically to support the feed inspection program, to any unrelated program.
